Understanding Fuel Delivery

The fuel delivery system in the 2.0T FSI consists of a low pressure fuel pump that operates between 40-95 psi, transferring fuel from the tank to the high pressure fuel pump. This pump, driven by the camshaft, raises the pressure to an impressive 130 bar (nearly 1900 psi), enabling direct fuel injection into the combustion chamber. However, modified vehicles frequently encounter fuel cut issues due to insufficient flow from the stock pump, especially under high demand.

Performance Specifications

The output capability of the high pressure pump is directly linked to its internal design. The volume of the pressurization chamber and the frequency of the piston cycle (1.5 times the engine RPM, owing to the three lobe cam) dictate the fuel flow. While the stock pump can support approximately 370 hp at 7000 RPM, it drops to a mere 158 hp at 3000 RPM. This discrepancy highlights the limitations of the stock fuel pump when paired with performance modifications.
