After a long wait and plenty of skepticism, APR has finally dropped the K04 upgrade kit for VW models with transversely mounted engines. If you’re like me and love getting the most out of your ride, this kit is a game changer. It comes packed with everything you need to boost your car’s performance—think K04 turbo, a solid compressor inlet O-ring, turbo outlet studs, and all the gaskets you’ll need for a smooth install. You’ll also get a 4bar fuel pressure regulator, which is crucial for those power gains.
What really stands out is how straightforward this turbo swap is. You don’t need to be a seasoned mechanic to tackle this. Just a little elbow grease, and you could see some serious improvements in both horsepower and torque. For example, with just an exhaust upgrade, I managed to squeeze out 242 hp and 268 lb-ft of torque on 91 octane, and it got even better with 93 octane—245 hp and 275 lb-ft. That’s a noticeable bump, especially if you’re looking to enhance your daily driver or weekend warrior.
This kit is designed with a cast stainless steel exhaust manifold and turbine housing, ensuring durability and performance. Plus, the CNC-machined billet aluminum compressor wheel is a nice touch, making sure you get that quick spool and responsive power delivery. The entire setup weighs in at about 31 lbs, which is pretty manageable for what you’re getting.
