After a long wait and plenty of skepticism, APR has finally dropped their K04 upgrade kit for the transversely mounted VW crowd. If you’re looking to give your ride a serious boost, this kit's where it’s at. It comes packed with everything you need: a K04 turbo, a compressor inlet O-ring, four turbo outlet studs, a manifold to turbo gasket, a 4-bar fuel pressure regulator, and a turbo to downturn gasket. It’s a straightforward swap that can really wake up your engine.

What’s impressive is the power this kit can unleash. With just an exhaust upgrade, I saw gains of 242 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque on 91 octane, and even better numbers—245 hp and 275 lb-ft—on 93 octane. And remember, you don’t even need any other mods to feel the difference. Plus, it comes with software to get everything dialed in just right.

The K04 turbo system kit weighs in at about 15 lbs, which is pretty manageable for a turbo setup. Just a heads up, this kit does have some legal caveats. It's legal under EPA provisions, but it's not street legal in California yet. They’re working on getting that 50-state compliance, so keep an eye out for updates if you’re in the Golden State.
