Since 2010, Radium Engineering has been a game changer in the world of racing with their external fuel surge tanks. These tanks tackle the frustrating issue of fuel starvation that can happen during intense racing conditions. By 2013, they took things a step further by launching the Fuel Cell Surge Tank (FCST), which quickly became the go-to choice for professional racers looking for reliability and efficiency.

What is a Fuel Cell Surge Tank (FCST)?

The FCST is a drop-in fuel pump system designed to fit seamlessly into Radium Engineering's popular fuel cells, as well as any fuel cell featuring the standard 6x10 24-bolt fill plate bolt pattern. This innovative system is specifically crafted to protect EFI vehicles from fuel starvation. Unlike other systems that merely trap fuel with baffles, the FCST employs a true dual-chamber design. It combines a single lift pump with up to three surge tank pumps, all neatly housed within the fuel cell. This setup provides all the advantages of traditional external surge tanks without the hassle of complicated plumbing or safety concerns.

Compatibility with Your Fuel Cell

Thinking about installing a Radium Engineering FCST? Here’s what you need to know:

• The fuel cell must feature the standard 6"x10" 24-bolt flange opening.
• The flange opening should be located on the top face of the fuel cell, not on the sides.
• The depth of the cell must be at least 7.7" (196mm) from the outer top face to the internal bottom face.

How Does It Work?

The magic begins with a lift pump that draws fuel from the bottom of the fuel cell and pumps it into a 2L surge tank. Inside this surge tank canister, you can install up to three EFI fuel pumps to deliver high-pressure fuel to your engine. If the lift pump ever runs dry, the surge tank has enough volume to keep the pumps and engine well-fed. Plus, the return from the pressure regulator flows back into the surge tank canister, helping to maintain its fuel level.

As fuel levels change, there are three integrated fill valves at the bottom of the surge tank. These one-way FKM fill valves remain closed until the fuel level in the cell rises above that in the surge tank. When that happens, each valve opens to send 355LPH of fuel (totaling 1065LPH) into the surge tank until equilibrium is reached. Any excess fuel simply flows back into the fuel cell, all happening safely within the confines of the tank.

Standard Fittings

• Pump Out -8AN Male: The outlet port marked "PUMP OUT" uses 7/8"-14 threads, making it compatible with all 10AN ORB fittings. A standard 10AN ORB to 8AN male adapter fitting is included.
• Return -6AN Male: The "RETURN" port is where low-pressure fuel returns from the FPR. This port uses 3/4"-16 threads and is compatible with all 8AN ORB fittings. An 8AN ORB to 6AN male adapter fitting is provided.
• Vent -8AN Male: The "VENT" port is tapped with 1-1/16"-12 threads, compatible with all 12AN ORB fittings. It includes Dynamic Safety Vent (DSV) Valves with a common 8AN male outlet for standard fuel filling.
