The purpose of a thread chaser is to clean the internally threaded holes in your engine block. To use a thread chaser is simple, you just run the tool through the hole and remove it, repeating this process until the threads are completely clean.
Unlike a tap, a thread chaser is not meant to cut new threads, only clean the existing ones. It is important to clean out debris such as old sealants, lubricants, gasket material, and anything else that could have fallen into internal bolt holes in your engine block.
